Custom Product Charge for EDD extends Easy Digital Downloads with focused product-level charge, tax, and rate handling. The plugin is designed for digital stores that want to manage fixed additional charges, included rate amounts, or country-based tax rates and display them clearly throughout the complete EDD purchase process.
For each EDD product, the shop operator can decide whether to use a fixed charge, assign a self-defined Rate Class from the CPC Rate Tables, or combine both features.
The price components managed by CPC remain assigned to the individual product. This makes it possible to display the product price, fixed charges, applied rate, and product total clearly in the cart, checkout, purchase confirmation, and invoices generated by Easy Digital Downloads.
Fixed product-level charges
A fixed additional charge with a custom label and amount can be configured for individual products. This can be used for service fees, handling fees, licensing components, levies, or other product-specific price components.
Depending on the selected configuration, the fixed charge can already be included in the product price or added separately to the product price. CPC performs the corresponding calculation and displays the amount clearly beneath the relevant product.
The charge remains product-specific and is not applied as a general fee across the entire order. Different products can therefore be configured independently.
Country-based Tax Rate Tables
The CPC Rate Tables allow the shop operator to manage custom country-based tax rates or other percentage-based rates. Each table entry can be assigned to a country, an optional region, and a Rate Class.
Rate Classes are created and managed by the shop operator and are then assigned to the relevant products. Examples may include classes such as “Standard,” “Reduced,” or any custom product-specific classification.
During checkout, CPC uses the country selected by the customer in Easy Digital Downloads to find the corresponding entry in the Rate Table. When the customer changes the selected country, the applied rate, cart display, and associated order data are updated accordingly.
When Rate Tables are used, CPC treats the configured product price as the existing gross total. The included rate amount is calculated from that total and displayed as a transparent breakdown. The visible product total is therefore not increased afterward.
Optional IP geolocation with IP2Location.io
CPC can compare the buyer country selected during the EDD checkout with the country detected through the customer’s IP address.
This feature requires the shop operator to have a separate **IP2Location.io** account and a valid API key. IP geolocation is optional and can be enabled or disabled in the CPC settings.
When the feature is enabled, CPC sends the IP address required for the lookup to IP2Location.io and receives the corresponding detected country. The plugin then compares the detected IP country with the country selected by the customer during checkout.
When both countries match, the purchase can continue normally. When they do not match, CPC displays an explanatory notice and requires the customer to confirm the selected country before the order can be completed.
A mismatch therefore does not automatically cause a permanent checkout block. Instead, the customer is clearly informed that the detected IP country differs from the selected checkout country and must manually confirm the current country selection.
When IP geolocation is disabled, CPC performs no IP-based check. In this case, the plugin works exclusively with the buyer country selected in Easy Digital Downloads.
Usage limits, availability, and any additional service costs depend on the plan selected by the shop operator at IP2Location.io. The required third-party account is not included with the purchase of CPC.
Custom Labels and language presets
The integrated Custom Labels feature allows important customer-facing CPC text to be adapted to the language and tone of the shop.
This may include notices, headings, confirmation text, and labels used for the charge and rate information generated by the plugin. The output can therefore be customized both linguistically and contextually.
CPC also supports loadable language presets and reusable custom presets. Individually configured labels can be saved and loaded again later.
Custom Labels only affect text generated by Custom Product Charge. Native Easy Digital Downloads labels, product names, discounts, prices, and existing orders remain unchanged.
Clear display throughout the EDD purchase process
CPC adds the information managed by the plugin directly to the existing Easy Digital Downloads workflow.
Depending on the product configuration, the output may include:

This information can be displayed beneath the relevant product in the cart, during checkout, in the purchase confirmation, and in the EDD invoice.
Additional price components and included rate amounts therefore remain traceable after the purchase. CPC does not replace the complete native EDD output. It only adds information where the plugin itself manages a charge or rate.
Products for which CPC is not enabled are not modified by the plugin.
CSV import for Rate Tables
Larger Rate Tables can be imported through a CSV file. During the import process, existing CSV columns can be assigned to the fields required by CPC.

Columns that are not required can be ignored during import. When a file contains multiple rate columns, they can be assigned to previously created Rate Classes or deliberately excluded.
CPC does not provide an automatically maintained worldwide tax-rate database. Imported or manually entered rates are not automatically verified, legally evaluated, or updated.
Use one calculation system
When the CPC Rate Tables are used, the native Easy Digital Downloads tax calculation must not be used in parallel for the same calculation.
Please use only one tax calculation system:
Custom Product Charge or EDD Tax.
Running both systems at the same time can lead to duplicate, conflicting, or misleading calculations and displays.
CPC deliberately does not modify the native EDD tax logic and does not attempt to combine both systems automatically. The shop operator must therefore choose either the CPC Rate Tables or EDD Tax.
Fixed CPC charges without Rate Tables may still be used alongside the standard EDD product structure, depending on the selected configuration. Once the CPC Rate Tables are used as the tax or rate calculation system, however, parallel operation with EDD Tax is not supported.
Responsibility and legal notice
Custom Product Charge is not a tax advisory, registration, reporting, or tax filing system. The plugin does not submit OSS reports, prepare tax returns, evaluate registration or nexus obligations, or automatically determine which tax rate is legally applicable.
Countries, regions, Rate Classes, percentages, and product assignments are entered and managed by the shop operator. The operator remains responsible for the accuracy, validity, legal suitability, and ongoing maintenance of this information.
The same applies to the use of IP geolocation with IP2Location.io. The shop operator is responsible for the required privacy information, configuration of the third-party service, selected API plan, and legal basis for processing IP addresses.
Custom Product Charge technically applies the rules defined by the shop operator and provides a clear product-level display of charges, tax rates, geolocation notices, and Custom Labels throughout Easy Digital Downloads.

Beim Checkout verwendet CPC das vom Käufer in Easy Digital Downloads ausgewählte Land, um den passenden Eintrag aus der Ratentabelle zu ermitteln. Ändert der Kunde seine Länderangabe, werden die angewendete Rate, die Warenkorbdarstellung und die zugehörigen Bestelldaten entsprechend aktualisiert.
Bei der Verwendung der Rate Tables behandelt CPC den angegebenen Produktpreis als bestehenden Gesamtpreis. Der enthaltene Rate-Anteil wird aus diesem Gesamtpreis berechnet und als transparente Aufschlüsselung angezeigt. Der sichtbare Produktgesamtpreis wird dadurch nicht nachträglich erhöht.
Optionale IP-Geolocation mit IP2Location.io
CPC kann das im EDD-Checkout ausgewählte Käuferland zusätzlich mit dem über die IP-Adresse ermittelten Land vergleichen.
Für diese Funktion benötigt der Shopbetreiber einen eigenen Account bei **IP2Location.io** sowie einen gültigen API-Key. Die IP-Geolocation ist optional und kann in den CPC-Einstellungen aktiviert oder deaktiviert werden.
Ist die Funktion aktiviert, übermittelt CPC die für die Abfrage erforderliche IP-Adresse an IP2Location.io und erhält das zugehörige erkannte Land zurück. Anschließend vergleicht das Plugin dieses IP-Land mit dem Land, das der Käufer im Checkout ausgewählt hat.
Stimmen beide Länder überein, kann der Kauf regulär fortgesetzt werden. Bei einer Abweichung zeigt CPC einen erklärenden Hinweis und eine erforderliche Bestätigung an. Der Käufer muss seine aktuelle Länderangabe bestätigen, bevor die Bestellung abgeschlossen werden kann.
Die Abweichung führt damit nicht automatisch zu einem endgültigen Checkout-Block. Stattdessen wird der Kunde ausdrücklich auf den Unterschied zwischen erkanntem IP-Land und ausgewähltem Checkout-Land hingewiesen.
Wird die IP-Geolocation deaktiviert, führt CPC keine IP-Prüfung durch. In diesem Fall arbeitet das Plugin ausschließlich mit dem in Easy Digital Downloads ausgewählten Käuferland.
Nutzungslimits, Verfügbarkeit und mögliche zusätzliche Kosten des Geolocation-Dienstes richten sich nach dem vom Shopbetreiber gewählten Tarif bei IP2Location.io. Der notwendige Drittanbieter-Account ist nicht Bestandteil des CPC-Kaufs.
Custom Labels und Sprachvorgaben
Mit den integrierten Custom Labels können wichtige kundenseitige CPC-Bezeichnungen an die Sprache und Tonalität des eigenen Shops angepasst werden.
Dazu gehören beispielsweise Hinweise, Überschriften, Bestätigungstexte und Bezeichnungen für die vom Plugin ausgegebenen Preis- und Ratenelemente. Dadurch kann die Darstellung sowohl sprachlich als auch inhaltlich an den jeweiligen Shop angepasst werden.
CPC unterstützt zudem ladbare Sprachvorgaben und wiederverwendbare eigene Presets. Individuell erstellte Bezeichnungen können gespeichert und später erneut geladen werden.
Die Custom Labels verändern ausschließlich Texte, die von Custom Product Charge ausgegeben werden. Native Bezeichnungen von Easy Digital Downloads, Produktnamen, Rabatte, Preise und bestehende Bestellungen bleiben unverändert.
Klare Darstellung im gesamten EDD-Kaufprozess
CPC ergänzt den bestehenden Easy-Digital-Downloads-Workflow gezielt um die vom Plugin verwalteten Informationen.
Abhängig von der Produktkonfiguration kann die Ausgabe unter anderem folgende Bestandteile enthalten:

Diese Informationen können beim jeweiligen Produkt im Warenkorb, während des Checkouts, in der Kaufbestätigung und in der EDD-Rechnung dargestellt werden.

Produkte, für die CPC nicht aktiviert wurde, werden vom Plugin nicht verändert.
CSV-Import für Rate Tables
Größere Ratentabellen können über eine CSV-Datei importiert werden. Während des Imports lassen sich vorhandene CSV-Spalten den von CPC benötigten Feldern zuordnen.

Beim Checkout verwendet CPC das vom Käufer in Easy Digital Downloads ausgewählte Land, um den passenden Eintrag aus der Ratentabelle zu ermitteln. Ändert der Kunde seine Länderangabe, werden die angewendete Rate, die Warenkorbdarstellung und die zugehörigen Bestelldaten entsprechend aktualisiert.
Bei der Verwendung der Rate Tables behandelt CPC den angegebenen Produktpreis als bestehenden Gesamtpreis. Der enthaltene Rate-Anteil wird aus diesem Gesamtpreis berechnet und als transparente Aufschlüsselung angezeigt. Der sichtbare Produktgesamtpreis wird dadurch nicht nachträglich erhöht.
Optionale IP-Geolocation mit IP2Location.io
CPC kann das im EDD-Checkout ausgewählte Käuferland zusätzlich mit dem über die IP-Adresse ermittelten Land vergleichen.
Für diese Funktion benötigt der Shopbetreiber einen eigenen Account bei **IP2Location.io** sowie einen gültigen API-Key. Die IP-Geolocation ist optional und kann in den CPC-Einstellungen aktiviert oder deaktiviert werden.
Ist die Funktion aktiviert, übermittelt CPC die für die Abfrage erforderliche IP-Adresse an IP2Location.io und erhält das zugehörige erkannte Land zurück. Anschließend vergleicht das Plugin dieses IP-Land mit dem Land, das der Käufer im Checkout ausgewählt hat.
Stimmen beide Länder überein, kann der Kauf regulär fortgesetzt werden. Bei einer Abweichung zeigt CPC einen erklärenden Hinweis und eine erforderliche Bestätigung an. Der Käufer muss seine aktuelle Länderangabe bestätigen, bevor die Bestellung abgeschlossen werden kann.
Die Abweichung führt damit nicht automatisch zu einem endgültigen Checkout-Block. Stattdessen wird der Kunde ausdrücklich auf den Unterschied zwischen erkanntem IP-Land und ausgewähltem Checkout-Land hingewiesen.
Wird die IP-Geolocation deaktiviert, führt CPC keine IP-Prüfung durch. In diesem Fall arbeitet das Plugin ausschließlich mit dem in Easy Digital Downloads ausgewählten Käuferland.
Nutzungslimits, Verfügbarkeit und mögliche zusätzliche Kosten des Geolocation-Dienstes richten sich nach dem vom Shopbetreiber gewählten Tarif bei IP2Location.io. Der notwendige Drittanbieter-Account ist nicht Bestandteil des CPC-Kaufs.
Custom Labels und Sprachvorgaben
Mit den integrierten Custom Labels können wichtige kundenseitige CPC-Bezeichnungen an die Sprache und Tonalität des eigenen Shops angepasst werden.
Dazu gehören beispielsweise Hinweise, Überschriften, Bestätigungstexte und Bezeichnungen für die vom Plugin ausgegebenen Preis- und Ratenelemente. Dadurch kann die Darstellung sowohl sprachlich als auch inhaltlich an den jeweiligen Shop angepasst werden.
CPC unterstützt zudem ladbare Sprachvorgaben und wiederverwendbare eigene Presets. Individuell erstellte Bezeichnungen können gespeichert und später erneut geladen werden.
Die Custom Labels verändern ausschließlich Texte, die von Custom Product Charge ausgegeben werden. Native Bezeichnungen von Easy Digital Downloads, Produktnamen, Rabatte, Preise und bestehende Bestellungen bleiben unverändert.
Klare Darstellung im gesamten EDD-Kaufprozess
CPC ergänzt den bestehenden Easy-Digital-Downloads-Workflow gezielt um die vom Plugin verwalteten Informationen.
Abhängig von der Produktkonfiguration kann die Ausgabe unter anderem folgende Bestandteile enthalten:

Rate Class and applied rate
Product total
Diese Informationen können beim jeweiligen Produkt im Warenkorb, während des Checkouts, in der Kaufbestätigung und in der EDD-Rechnung dargestellt werden.
Dadurch bleiben zusätzliche Preisbestandteile und enthaltene Rate-Anteile auch nach dem Kauf nachvollziehbar. CPC ersetzt dabei nicht die vollständige EDD-Ausgabe, sondern ergänzt sie nur dort, wo das Plugin selbst eine Gebühr oder Rate verwaltet.
Produkte, für die CPC nicht aktiviert wurde, werden vom Plugin nicht verändert.
CSV-Import für Rate Tables
Größere Ratentabellen können über eine CSV-Datei importiert werden. Während des Imports lassen sich vorhandene CSV-Spalten den von CPC benötigten Feldern zuordnen.
Dazu können unter anderem folgende Informationen gehören:

Nicht benötigte Spalten können beim Import ignoriert werden. Enthält eine Datei mehrere Ratenspalten, können diese den zuvor angelegten Rate Classes zugewiesen oder bewusst ausgelassen werden.
CPC stellt keine automatisch gepflegte weltweite Steuerdatenbank bereit. Die importierten oder manuell eingegebenen Raten werden nicht automatisch rechtlich geprüft oder aktualisiert.
Ein Berechnungssystem verwenden
Bei der Verwendung der CPC Rate Tables darf die native Steuerberechnung von Easy Digital Downloads nicht parallel für dieselben Berechnungen eingesetzt werden.

Ein gleichzeitiger Betrieb beider Systeme kann zu doppelten, widersprüchlichen oder missverständlichen Berechnungen und Darstellungen führen.
CPC verändert die native EDD-Steuerlogik bewusst nicht und versucht nicht, beide Systeme automatisch miteinander zu kombinieren. Der Shopbetreiber entscheidet sich daher entweder für die CPC Rate Tables oder für EDD Tax.
Reine feste CPC-Zusatzkosten können abhängig von der gewählten Konfiguration weiterhin zusammen mit der normalen EDD-Produktstruktur verwendet werden. Sobald jedoch die CPC Rate Tables als Tax- beziehungsweise Ratensystem eingesetzt werden, ist ein paralleler Mischbetrieb mit EDD Tax nicht vorgesehen.
Verantwortung und rechtlicher Hinweis
Custom Product Charge ist kein Steuerberatungs-, Registrierungs-, Melde- oder Steuererklärungssystem. Das Plugin führt keine OSS-Meldungen durch, übernimmt keine Steueranmeldungen, prüft keine Registrierungs- oder Nexuspflichten und entscheidet nicht automatisch, welcher Steuersatz rechtlich anzuwenden ist.
Die verwendeten Länder, Regionen, Rate Classes, Prozentsätze und Produktzuweisungen werden vom Shopbetreiber selbst eingetragen und verwaltet. Die Richtigkeit, Aktualität und rechtliche Eignung dieser Angaben bleibt in der Verantwortung des Betreibers.
Dies gilt ebenfalls für den Einsatz der IP-Geolocation mit IP2Location.io. Der Shopbetreiber ist für die erforderlichen Datenschutzinformationen, die Konfiguration des Drittanbieterdienstes, den verwendeten API-Tarif und die rechtliche Grundlage der IP-Verarbeitung verantwortlich.
Custom Product Charge stellt die vom Betreiber hinterlegten Regeln technisch bereit und sorgt für eine klare, produktbezogene Darstellung von Charges, Tax Rates, Geolocation-Hinweisen und Custom Labels in Easy Digital Downloads.
